From start to finish, what would be your ideal food day? I would wake up to the smell of coffee brewing (i.e. I would not have to do a thing). My latest love is a few ounces of Café Bustelo (Cuban-style espresso), a spoonful of brown sugar, a tall class of ice and the rest of the cup filled with creamy, cold unsweetened vanilla almond milk. IMG_0596 With a little coffee in my system I would move on to breakfast. Eggs. Fresh avocado. Perfectly ripe tomatoes. Maybe some wilted, garlicky greens. I would love to balance all that out with a perfect Belgian waffle or a pancake with too many things in it like bananas, semisweet chocolate chips and blueberries. Honey on top, please.

For lunch I would have a nice giant salad with a mountain of fresh vegetables. A tahini ginger dressing or some other tart and savory creation. Some blackened salmon or fresh seared Ahi tuna. I warm wedge of crusty sourdough on the side.

If the day was ideal I guess I would eat a chocolate chip cookie the size of my face. Crisp edges and gooey, chocolate-filled center. Some flakes of sea salt on top truly punches it up a notch.

I would drink so much perfectly cold water. Water is my superpower.

Dinner, oh dinner. I could dream up so many different routes for dinner. I do not live near any Ethiopian places currently, but that is one of my great loves. An Ethiopian vegetarian platter. I love the injera on the bottom of the plate, when it has soaked up all the flavors of the different spices and sauces.

Of course there will be more dessert. Ice cream. Anything with hunks or chucks or swirls of chocolate will be perfect.

Favorite cities for food? San Francisco blew my culinary mind. Every corner held a new cuisine that excelled in preparation and presentation. Plus the desserts equal heaven. image Favorite splurges? The restaurant I work at has the best cakes ever. Consistently and constantly. Ever too often I bring home a slice after work and eat some as I unwind or eat some for breakfast, or eat a bite throughout the day. Vegan chocolate cake, carrot cranberry cake, peanut butter pie, pumpkin cheesecake… everything is made to perfection.

What catches your eye on a menu? As a lover of greens, I always see if the place has some new and interesting way to serve a vegetable. In Baltimore, I had a kale salad with buttermilk dressing and savory granola. The newness really got me excited and it tasted incredible.

What’s always in your fridge? I always have lettuce, eggs, ice cream and avocados.


Describe your personal style. Eclectic. I go through phases of favorite outfits. I tend to keep a heavy rotation of comfortable and classic pieces: jean shorts, a chambray shirt, a plaid shift dress. Though I love to pull out vibrant pieces every so often. My red ankle boots with gold studs are show-stoppers, they are equally “me.” image Are there any key pieces you find yourself wearing constantly? In the summer I live in cut-off shorts and dainty gold chain necklaces. In the winter I love big slouchy sweaters that feel like a warm hug and my rotation of thick, wool socks.

What is your most recent purchase? I recently bought a turquoise, purple and blue plaid dress. I bought it from Flashbacks, a consignment store. The dress is very boxy and very short and feels like I can wear it for anything and with anything.

Style icon(s)? I love the wild clothing combinations that Leandra Medine, of Manrepeller, creates. I love those classic iconic women like Jane Birkin and Twiggy. I love young groundbreakers like Tavi Gevinson. Socialite Olivia Palermo always looks polished. The Olsen twins are always pushing the envelope yet looking so cozy.
